Miami, Florida /Sala 3
I was born in Havana, Cuba, and have been living in the United States many decades. I arrived to the United States alone as a young teenager under the care of the Peter Pan program and relocated to Portland, Oregon, where I lived for many years. I believe that this early exposure to such cultural and political diversity has given me the insight and depth of perception of human nature not accomplished by all, thus permitting me to see and interpret life in those colors.
I attended Marylhurst College, well known for its art department, while in the Pacific Northwest. However, shortly thereafter, I was forced to pursue a 35 year business career with BellSouth Advertising and Publishing instead. I moved to Miami, Florida in 1977, again adding a new perspective to my perception of life. While working in the advertising department for BellSouth, I designed ads for my customers and produced illustrations for the company.
It has been recently that I realized that art had never left my soul and has surfaced again in full force. I have been expanding and polishing my techniques under the tutelage of two internationally acclaimed Cuban artists, Baruj Salinas and Yovani Bauta.
My choice of medium for the moment is acrylic because of its plasticity and malleability. I feel that my use of texture and strong hues gives my work added excitement, sensitivity and dramatic depth.
All of these works have been done in 2011
