Són construccions senzilles pensades per un ús concret i on la pedra és el material bàsic empleat. Així doncs, trobem elements d’arquitectura rural en l’aprofitament de la terra pel seu conreu, en la necessitat de aixoplugar-se o resguardar-se de les inclemències meteorològiques, en l’aprofitament de l’aigua, en l’obtenció i transformació de matèries com l’aigua, la calç, el guix o l’argila, en l’explotació de la ramaderia i altres animals o en les vies de desplaçament o comunicació com camins i ponts.
